ESG Africa Conference 2024
The Forest Stewardship Council is proud to be associated with the ESG Africa Conference. We have attended all three so far, and this year were able to get even more involved by becoming a partner organization, exhibiting and hosting a team of FSC staff from FSC International – Bernardo Mateluna and Felix von Eynern, FSC Africa colleagues, FSC Latin America (LATAM) - César José Galarza and 3 FSC Eastern Africa Guests. Our guests were from Kenyan Forestry Services, Tanzanian Forestry Services and Uganda Timbre Growers Association.
ESG Africa Conference encourages the most impactful and forward-thinking minds across Africa, as it empowers leaders to drive a more sustainable future. This event provided an unparalleled platform for industry pioneers and experts to come together and tackle the common challenges associated with embedding ESG practices within organisations. The conference’s core theme, “Sustainable Future Through Leadership,” underscores the essential role that leaders play in ensuring their organizations align with ESG principles and integrate them into their overall strategy.
At the 2024 conference, we were able to motivate for Ecosystem Services as one of the breakaway sessions. We were able to co-present with Endangered Wildlife Trust and the South African Breweries (SAB). Richard Fergusson, FSC Southern African Coordinator was the MC of the session and presented an opening presentation on Ecosystems in general, then panellists Felix von Eynern, FSC Global Ecosystem Sales Manager shared insights on the value of FSC Ecosystem Services, and then followed Endangered Wildlife Trust on their conservation approach to Ecosystems, and SAB on their water stewardship work with various municipalities in restoring water security.
The conference and exhibition presented a worthwhile opportunity to showcase FSC’s work in forest stewardship, as a nature-based solution provider and as a responsible forest product sourcing solution. And a great networking opportunity!
