Under this year’s theme, “Sixty-three (63) Years of Unity, Integration and Development, let’s celebrate together,” we recognize the important role Africa’s forests continue to play in climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, restoration, livelihoods, and sustainable economic growth across the continent.
Africa’s forests are among the most important on Earth.
Africa’s forests span an estimated 637 million hectares, representing 15.6% of global forest cover. Today, 11.2 million hectares are managed under FSC certification across the continent, with FSC standards developed or adapted across 20 African countries. More than 400 businesses are also using FSC certification to access sustainability-driven markets.
Through initiatives such as the Zámba Heritage Initiative, Africa is helping shape an ambitious future for responsible forest management and landscape restoration across the continent.
Africa is not standing on the sidelines of the sustainability conversation.
Africa is helping lead it.
