During the workshop, which focused on enhancing private and public sector awareness regarding the illegal timber trade in Uganda, Ms. Agasha delivered a presentation on FSC certification standards and solutions to keep our forests for all forever.
Subsequently, she contributed to a panel discussion, providing insights into FSC's initiatives and solutions that can support forest owners and managers in achieving compliance with established laws, the FSC standards in the country and the utilization of FSC tools, such as group certification and the continuous improvement procedure are making FSC certification more accessible to for all types of forest managers.
Agasha showcased FSC's advanced tools designed to align with the EUDR, which bans deforestation-linked products from the EU. She encouraged stakeholders to use FSC as a key strategy for achieving EUDR compliance.
The workshop and invitation are clear evidence of the growing recognition of FSC certification as an essential requirement for responsible forest management within the country. A key takeaway from the engagement was the recognition of FSC and forest certification as a vital tool for responsible forest management and the reduction of illegal timber and forest product.
