It unites governments, individuals, organisations and communities and act as an implementation vehicle for national priorities such as water and food security and rural development (which is a priority in many African countries) while contributing to the achievement of international climate change, biodiversity and land degradation commitments.
The Partnership was initiated with the purpose of catalyzing and reinforcing a network of diverse examples of restoration of degraded and deforested lands that deliver benefits to local communities and to the environment. The members of the Partnership are active in every major region of the world, gathering knowledge on restoration, facilitating restoration assessments, and promoting increased support for forest restoration in international, regional and national policy frameworks.

The Partnership promotes an integrated forest landscape restoration approach to regaining function in degraded lands, an approach that seeks to ensure that forests, trees and the functions they provide are effectively restored, conserved and employed to help secure sustainable livelihoods and ecological integrity for the future.
Joining the partnership allows FSC to expand our work beyond the setting of standards, which is an important element of the FSC strategy going forward. It will also allow us to use this dialogue platform to share important resources around key projects such those pertaining to ecosystem services.
