FSC offices, partners, members and certificate holders around the world initiate a variety of events to educate the public on the role FSC plays in halting devastating deforestation, and encouraging more people to support us in the important work we do.

On FSC Friday 2016, the FSC Africa office launched a guerrilla-style campaign on 4th Avenue in Parkhurst, Johannesburg. Residents and shoppers were surprised and intrigued to see a pop-up activation consisting of a number of cardboard trees lining the busy street. The trees were decorated with forest animals and messages such as: “Think paper can’t save trees? Think again!”
Brochures containing FSC Friday information and bags were distributed in order to educate passers-by. We received a very positive response.

We would like to thank Mondi for their sponsorship and assistance on the day, and to TWK for generously donating the tree stumps we used to prop up the cardboard trees.

In Kenya, Paul Opanga (the sub-regional coordinator for Eastern Africa) collaborated with Tetra Pak and appeared on Kenya Television Network (KTN) Morning Talk during the business news segment to discuss FSC certification in the region.

Additionally, he presented an educational talk at the Tetra Pak offices in Nairobi. The talk was attended by Hakan Soderholm, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Eastern Africa and about 25 staff members. The attendees were informed about aspects of what the FSC/ Tetra Pak partnership is likely to achieve in the Eastern Africa sub region, including creating awareness and promoting responsible sourcing. There are also plan to undertake FSC Trademark training for Tetra Pak staff in future.
