FSC empowers the next generation of forestry entrepreneurs in Nairobi, Kenya

The training session, attended by 30 Young Greenbiz commercial forestry entrepreneurs from the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KICK), provided essential insights into FSC certification and its role in promoting responsible forestry practices. The event was chaired by Dr. Jane Njuguna, Acting Director of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI). Dr. Njuguna emphasized the need for value addition in forestry businesses, particularly focusing on downstream development and growth.

Dr. Joram Kagombe, a scientist from KEFRI, in their remarks to the learners, highlighted the significance of international forestry standards. They equally gave insights into the certification process and legal compliance. Dr. Kagombe also explored the opportunities that arise from embracing ecosystem services within the forestry sector.

The session served as a valuable platform for the next generation of forestry entrepreneurs to connect with industry experts, acquire essential knowledge about responsible forestry practices, and understand the pivotal role that FSC certification plays in shaping the future of the forestry industry.
