For more than 25 years we’ve been working to take care of them for future generations. On September 25, 2020, the Forest Stewardship Council™ hosted ‘FSC Friday’, an annual event to raise awareness for FSC™ by encouraging consumers, companies, communities and stakeholders to share their committment to FSC and responsible forest management.

Forests for All Together was our theme this year. We are celebrating the importance of bringing people together to responsibly care for forests – from environmentalists to big business, from Indigenous Peoples to communities and governments, from forest workers to careful consumers, it is essential that we work together to care for our forests.

Forest Management, Chain of Custody and Promotional License Holder were invited this year to participate by posting themed posts everyday on Social Media from Sunday 20 September to FSC Friday on the 25th . The themes were :

• We are in this together,
• Bringing together Environmentalists and Big Business,
• Bringing together Indigenous Peoples and Forestry Companies,
• Bringing together Forest Workers and Careful Consumers
• Bringing together Local Actions with Global Goals (SDG).
• We then had a final post on FSC Friday of delightful animation.

All posts were done with the hashtags: #ForestsForAllTogether #FSCFriday2020

FSC certificate and licence holders were able to download the FSC Friday assets from the FSC Marketing and Communications web platform. FSC South Africa also assisted by sending regular email communications with links to the assets.

It was really great to see how our certificate holders, promotional license holders and partners supported this great cause, said Gerard Busse, FSC Marketing Manager in South Africa.

The Twinsaver Group supported the campaign in a significant way by working with 6 social media influencers in South Africa. Their collective posts on Instagram received 17 699 likes, achieving some of the best coverage internationally for FSC.

Woodlands diary (First Choice Brand) supported the FSC campaign across 4 social media platforms – Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram for all 5 days. Well done!

On Facebook other supporters for the full five days were Forestry (www.forestry.co.za), Mondi Rotatrim and SAFCOL, and on LinkedIn we had posts from New Forest Company and Merensky Timber.

On Instagram our support for the full period came from Levasflor and The Bespoke Amenities Group. Our regular Tweeters were SAFCOL, and Paperrockza (Paper Manufacturers Association).

There were many other posts on actual FSC Friday – far too many to mention here.

The support FSC received from its certificate holders and promotional license holders was incredible and lays the basis for more collaborative opportunities to spread the news regarding responsible forestry and sustainable production and consumption of forest-based products.

Thank you for your support. If you did not have a chance to support FSC on social media this year there’s always next year.
