A roundtable was conducted with some FSC individual and organizational members, on Monday 09th October 2017, including Greenpeace International, WWF, WCS, ATIBT, FSC African Members, Borneo Initiative and FSC Certified companies from Congo Basin.

The main outcomes of the discussions are summarized below.

Of course, the vote of the Motion 34 may have some consequences regarding the planification of the next meeting of the HCV-Regional Working Group, and the decisions taken by the next Board meeting will help to have a better visibility of the process.

Main outcomes of the roundtable of Congo Basin stakeholders, FSC-GA, Monday 09th October 2017:

1. Ongoing HCV-2 mapping by the scientific consortium WCS/WRI/WWF/WRI/FSC should be finalized in the coming weeks, shapefiles and layouts would be made available on a WWF platform with guideline on how to use and/or interpret the data and scenario run as a decisions-making tool;

2. FSC Congo Basin Office will facilitate the link between stakeholders and WRI about update of IFLs maps, in compliance with existing Intact Forest Landscapes methodology (GFW), but by using recent and relevant available data. Additional work may be required to finalize maps and FSC Congo Basin Office has been identified as a convenient facilitator for this work;

3. After the 08th FSC GA, according to the membership’s decisions to be taken by the 12th and 13th October, FSC Congo Basin Office will propose another meeting with the HCV-RWG members.

4. To insure a sufficient empowerment of the HCV-RWG members, discussions materials will be sent through email to key stakeholders (basically the attendants of the present meeting) one month before to let all parties to work with its representatives within the HCV-RWG and to share, prior to the meeting, with others chambers their proposals;

5. The process to formulate IFLs indicators at the sub-regional level will be led at the Congo Basin level, and HCV-RWG is the reference organ for that. Then, National Standards Development Groups will integrate these set of indicators (eventually by adapting them to the audit context).
