The development of a National Risk Assessment (NRA) provides a consistent application of our Standards and Policies and helps our Certificate Holders better avoid products from: Illegally harvested forests; Forests harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights; Forests in which high conservation values are threatened; Forests that are being converted to plantations or non-forest use; or Forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.
The NRA Working Group consists of 6 members, and is chamber balanced with representation from the economic, social and environmental chambers. The Working Group utilised the FSC’s Centralized National Risk Assessment (CNRA) for eSwatini as a base document, which had been written by consultants hired by FSC International.
The NRA Working Group has developed Draft 1 of the NRA in accordance with procedure FSC-PRO-60-002 V3-0 The Development and Approval of FSC National Risk Assessments and in consultation with key stakeholders. The NRA Draft document is currently being reviewed by the FSC International and is due to be released for a 60-day Public Consultation on 01 July 2018.
FSC Southern Africa intends to have an approved National Risk Assessment for eSwatini in February 2019.
