ALDI SÜD and ALDI Nord won this year’s Sustainability Heroes Award in the category “Social Commitment” for their charcoal project in Namibia which was realized in cooperation with FSC International. The prize was awarded to a project in which the two leading discount store chains have been supporting sustainable charcoal production in Namibia since 2019. As part of the project, the charcoal was certified according to the Forest Stewardship Council™’s (FSC) ecologically and socially responsible standards.
