The concept of High Conservation Values (HCV), initially developed as part of the FSC Principles and Criteria, is applied widely today in relation to the management of natural resources, in forestry, agriculture, biofuels/biomaterials, and other areas.

Whilst recognising that smallholders are yet to be fully integrated in the supply chain of forest products, the Farm Forestry Small Producers Association of Kenya (FFSPAK) has decided to work closely with FSC East Africa Office to promote FSC certification amongst its country-wide membership.

On 09 September 2016, the use of Alpha-Cypermethrin, Cypermethrin and Deltamethrin in South Africa was approved by the FSC pesticides committee for specific certificate holders.
